WHERE WE ARE…

We are located on the edge of a village. This means you can reach the local pub on foot and its a worthwhile walk to see the views across the Severn Valley with a wonderful meal or local ale to reward you at the end. You’ll need a torch and some stamina to make it back afterwards though!

We are also located directly from the Gloucester Road which means you can quite easily drive to Ross-on-Wye or Cheltenham for dinner for an evening out and return to a warm (we can light the fire if you ask) and easily found room under the stars.

We really feel we have the best of both worlds here – rural enough to totally relax, hear the dawn chorus and forget all your troubles but well located enough to allow you to explore the fantastic local area easily.

AROUND AND ABOUT….

  • Ross-on-wye – a lovely little market town where you can walk along the river, or organise a canoe trip and stop pub to pub.  Lots of antiques – which are not to be confused with books.  (Hay-on-wye is around an hour away) Ross is 7 miles away.  Buses directly from village.
  • Symonds Yat  – climb the rock (easier than it sounds) and look for the Peregrine Falcons that nest there.  Approx 13 miles away.
  • Wye Valley – too much to mention!  Canoe the Wye, Cider trails.  10 miles away.
  • The Forest of Dean – so many activities here!  We are literally on the edge of the forest.  Around 5 miles to the centre.   Hire bikes with Pedalabikeaway and go off road or amble on the family trail.  Go Ape! and swing through the trees.  Archery, Shooting, Walking, Foraging.

VERY LOCAL THINGS TO DO….

(that don’t have to involve the car!)

  • Walk up to the summit of May Hill – the views are breathtaking and the wild ponies are friendly. The pictures below were taken on May Day – when Morris dancers and local folk trek up to the top to see in the sunrise.  An old English wonder…
  • Have coffee and cake at The Forest Bakehouse after walking through the old quarry to see the wild flowers.  Snowdrops to Primroses to Bluebells.
  • Walk to Hillside  Brewery for a tasting or a brew day or you might be lucky enough to be here for one of their music events.
  • Take a course at Hart’s Barn Cookery School – Its in the village – and its so well run and the courses are extensive.
  • Cycle to Newent and have a wine tasting and meal at Three Choirs Vineyard.
  • If its raining visit the cutest Palace Art Deco cinema in Cinderford.
